JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The Passive/Installation Engineer will work with multiple project teams, providing analysis and engineering support related to the design, development, and integration of hardware, software, campus wiring, and all IT system level requirements to provide an integrated IT solution. The candidate will be expected to:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 

· Develop integrated systems test requirements, strategies, and devices

· Direct overall system level testing and document results

· Clarify information to enable proper interpretation and evaluation of complex specifications, performance characteristics, or other technical data

· Participate in site surveys, as required, and make recommendations on infrastructure solutions

· Provide guidance/supervision to lower-level Passive Engineers and Technicians

· Develop cable run lists/and or cutsheets for IT infrastructure designs and for Engineer/Technician use during implementation

· Develop rack elevations for Communications Closets, floor plans with network requirements/IT services and labeling for work area outlets/optical network terminals, circuit diagrams, cable riser diagrams, and wall elevation details during the design phase of projects

· Develop material lists from design plans for estimates and for procurement

· Coordinate with technicians in the field, as required, to ensure requirements are being implemented correctly.

· Ensure that the quality of the installation is to the highest level

· Maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned

· Participate in special projects as required

QUALIFICATIONS

 

 

Experience/Skills/Education Requirements:

· Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training, and/or work experience, equating to 5+ years total

· Knowledge of campus wiring/cabling/telecommunications standards and best practices required

· Intermediate level experience with Microsoft Visio (drawings) and Microsoft Excel (cable run lists)

· Ability to collaborate successfully with all Passive Engineers and Active Network Engineers on the team, as well as Campus Wiring Technicians and numerous Project Managers for project prioritization

· Ability to shift priorities quickly to meet project deadlines/implement solutions quickly per customer requirements

· Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to decipher complex requirements into manageable tools and documents to use in the field

· Experience working with AutoCAD a plus

· Ability to obtain and maintain a DHS EOD

· Ability to obtain a TS clearance a plus

· Understanding of Active Networking a plus

· Experience working on design/build programs and projects a plus

· Must be able to work onsite daily
